Hopi - Current situation
As mentioned above, the free Hopi people were forced to live in the strictly established Hopi Reserve by the American government in 1882. From that time on, the people were under the domination of the American government and had to stand idly by and watch their sovereignty, their culture and their spiritual and spiritual living space being gradually destroyed. Not only was their land stolen from the Hopi, they were gradually educated their children, practiced their religion, spoke their own language, etc.... is forbidden. Universal compulsory education was introduced and the Hopi children were forced to undergo an American-Christian education in boarding schools in order to alienate them from their language and culture.

In 1934, the Bureau for Indian Affairs established a tribal council to undermine the power of the traditional Hopi leadership. At that time, the division of the Hopi into progressive and traditional began. The tribal council is not recognized by the traditional. Existential conflicts over land and cultural freedom have been going on for decades, with the traditional Hopi becoming more and more in the minority and being exposed to reprisals almost unconsciously. When large quantities of mineral resources (coal, oil and above all uranium) were discovered in the area of the 3 Mesas in the 1960s, this area, in which the Hopi reserve is located, was called a "national sacrificial area", so to speak, where no more consideration was paid to land and inhabitants for the extraction of raw materials and the Hopi and the surrounding Navajo were threatened with evictions and resettlements. However, uranium mining has contaminated and continues to contaminate much of the country, posing an additional threat to the lives and limb of the tribe members. But the traditional people protest by all means against the exploitation and destruction of their holy land and especially the many old spiritual places of worship and shrines which are sacred to the Hopi and irreplaceable for the practice of their faith and ceremonies. Many of these sites have been violently destroyed, and many tribal members have already lost their lives in this struggle against oppression and destruction. Many protests and relief actions are taking place worldwide to put a stop to this genocide and destruction. The Hopi still hold on to their way of life and their holy land, because the longing for the fulfillment of the prophecy is growing stronger and stronger, that in extreme need "the return of the Great White Brother" can finally be expected, who finally puts an end to this misery and injustice and leads the world back into harmony and balance.
